Wire Ropes for Draglines

Haggie ropes used on Draglines are designed to withstand repeated bending, shock-loading and high radial pressures whilst offering maximum resistance to abrasion and plastic deformation to the outer wires. Invariably the design of Dragline ropes is a compromise between maximizing abrasion resistance and maximizing bending fatigue. 6 stranded ropes are more effective on some installations but as a general rule 8 stranded ropes deliver the most cost effective performance.

Wire Ropes for Face Shovels

Ropes used on Face Shovels must be able to withstand repeated bending, shock-loading and high radial pressures. Failure is more often due to bending fatigue and Haggie ropes are designed to reduce this risk. In particular plastication (the extruded impregnation of tough polypropylene into the rope) provides improved resistance to fatigue whilst reducing the wear on drums, sheaves and other contact points.

Safety & Environmental Concerns

Haggie excavator ropes are only supplied on demountable steel reels for safety and environmental reasons.

  • Haggie reels are designed for safe handling and prolonged storage of ropes on site. Safety features include the special welded plates that serve as lifting lugs for the reels. Ropes are always shipped to site with the lifting lugs in the top position.

  • Clear markings indicate the direction of reeling and the gross mass of each reel to ensure safe handling

  • Haggie Reid collects empty reels free of charge from the mine sites. The barrel of the reel is easily removed and the flanges are returned to the rope works for re-use. This eliminates the need to dispose of wooden reels previously used with cost savings accruing to the mines.
Haggie excavator ropes are supplied with environmentally friendly lubricants.
